Iran confirms cancellation of foreign minister’s US visit

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will not attend the upcoming session of the United Nations Security Council after encountering difficulties in obtaining a US visa.

The announcement was made by Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the ministry, ISNA reports.

“Given the current circumstances, the visit will not proceed due to complications related to the issuance of a US visa. As the meeting is expected to take place tomorrow and the following day, the trip will therefore not materialize,” Baghaei said.

Araghchi had been expected to participate in discussions at the UN Security Council meeting scheduled to take place in New York over the coming days.
