Iran criticizes US, UK, France for silence on Israeli airstrikes

24 July 2024 18:21

Iran's permanent representative to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani has criticised the US, UK, and France for their silence regarding the Israeli Air Force's shelling of the port of Hodeidah.

In a letter to the chairman of the UN Security Council, Iravani expressed his disappointment at the three permanent members of the Security Council for not condemning Israel’s attacks on civilians and infrastructure in Yemen, Caliber.Az reports citing the Iranian media.

The letter, provided by the IRNA agency, highlights that a representative of the Israeli regime openly declared the port of Hodeidah a military target, despite the UN Deputy Secretary-General and Security Council members recognising it as a "lifeline" for millions in Yemen. Iravani emphasised that Iran condemns Israel’s attack on the Yemeni port, viewing it as a blatant violation of Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the UN Charter.

The Israeli military has said it has conducted strikes against Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah in response to attacks by the Houthi group.

The Ministry of Health, which operates in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, said three people were killed and 87 wounded, many with severe burns as a result of the Israeli strikes. The toll has risen to six.

The Israeli air raids on July 20 were carried out a day after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone attack that killed one person in Tel Aviv and injured 10 others.

On July 21 morning, Houthi military spokesman General Yahya Saree said during a televised address that the group attacked the Israeli port city of Eilat with a number of ballistic missiles in an operation that “achieved its goals successfully”.
