Iran denounces EU move to label IRGC terrorist organisation
Iran has condemned the European Union’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, calling the move “hostile, unlawful and politically motivated.”
In a statement released on January 29, Iran’s armed forces said the EU decision was “baseless and unfounded” and accused European policymakers of acting under pressure from the United States and Israel, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The statement described the move as a violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and the principle of national sovereignty.
Iran’s military also warned that European countries would bear responsibility for what it called the “dangerous consequences” of what it characterised as a “provocative and hostile decision.”
Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that European Union foreign ministers had agreed to add the IRGC to the bloc’s list of terrorist organisations.
