Iran detains 14 people linked to foreign intelligence
Iranian security forces have liquidated a sabotage group linked to foreign counter-intelligence in the Markazi province in the course of a special operation.
As reported by Tasnim agency, the security forces detained 14 people who were preparing attacks to destabilize the situation. Abdel Mahdi Mousavi, a spokesman for local authorities, noted that the city of Erak (280 km from the capital Tehran) was the location of a nucleus of saboteurs who had organized riots in central Iran. "Under the guidance of foreign agents, attacks on the headquarters of the Islamic people’s militia 'Basij' were planned from here", he stressed, adding that the militants were preparing bottles with inflammatories for the burning of institutions, warehouses and economic objects.
Caliber.Az recalls, that the Basij Resistance Force is a volunteer youth paramilitary organization operating under the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
In addition, according to the official, "active work was carried out to recruit supporters among young people, posters with controversial slogans were hung on pedestrian bridges". He further disclosed, that the security forces were able to trace the terrorist network thanks to information from vigilant citizens.
