Iran detains 14 terrorists
The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence has announced the arrest of 14 terrorists in Iran, who are believed to be members of "Wilayat Khorasan", a branch of the "Islamic State" (IS) terrorist group.
"Officers from the general intelligence departments of Tehran, Alborz, Fars, and Khuzestan provinces in coordination with the Iranian intelligence community, revealed and, under a court decision, arrested 14 individuals from the 'ISIS-Khorasan' group, which is backed by the Americans and Israel," the ministry said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
The ministry also mentioned that the detained individuals "illegally entered Iran over the past few days with the intention of carrying out terrorist attacks. Half of the militants were apprehended in the Iranian southern Fars province.
The identities and nationalities of the detainees have not been disclosed. Over the past two years, there have been several terrorist attacks attributed to IS in Iran. These include two attacks on the Shahcheragh Shrine in Shiraz and an attack during the ceremony commemorating former IRGC Quds force commander Qassem Soleimani's death anniversary in Kerman, claimed by IS. IS officially claimed responsibility for the 2022 attack on the Shahcheragh Shrine and the last January attack on the Kerman ceremony.
