Iran has executed Ehsan Afrashteh on charges of intelligence cooperation with Israel, according to the Mizan News Agency, which is linked to the country’s judiciary.
Afrashteh, born in 1993 in Isfahan and holding a master’s degree in civil engineering, was arrested in early 2024 after returning from Türkiye. According to Iran Human Rights Monitor, he spent several months in solitary confinement under interrogation at a security detention facility.
Mizan reported that during his alleged cooperation with Mossad, Afrashteh became fluent in English, French, and Hebrew. His code name within the agency was said to be “James.”
He exchanged at least four to five emails per month and more than 300 messages with Mossad officers.
