Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel's Mossad

Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and aiding in operations inside the country, the judiciary said on April 30.

The man, identified as Mohsen Langarneshin, was accused of collaborating with Mossad since October 2020 and participating in operations after undergoing training abroad, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

Authorities said Langarneshin provided logistical and technical support for the assassination of Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, a senior officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who was killed in Tehran in 2022.

Langarneshin was also found guilty of involvement in an attack on a defence-linked industrial facility in the central city of Isfahan, as well as supplying Mossad agents inside Iran with vehicles, equipment, safe houses, and funds.

He reportedly held meetings with senior Mossad officers in Georgia and Nepal to receive operational instructions. The judiciary said Langarneshin confessed during interrogations and court proceedings.

To recall, Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, a senior officer in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, was assassinated on May 22, 2022, in Tehran. He was shot five times by two gunmen on a motorcycle outside his home while seated in his car. Iranian officials attributed the killing to "global arrogance," a term commonly used to refer to the United States and Israel.

Former president Ebrahim Raisi and IRGC commanders vowed revenge, and thousands attended Khodaei's funeral, chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans.
