Iran executes man over mosque arson during January protests
21 April 2026 13:23
Iran has executed a man accused of setting fire to a mosque in Tehran during January protests and of leading a network linked to Israel’s intelligence service, Reuters reports.
Iranian media identified the man as Amirali Mirjafari, stating that he had been convicted of carrying out arson at the Qolhak mosque in Tehran and of leading what it described as anti-security activities.
His death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and carried out early on April 21, the report added.
Iran experienced nationwide anti-government protests earlier this year, which were met with a severe crackdown described as the largest in the Islamic Republic’s history.
