Iran executes trained Ansar al-Furqan militant
A trained member of the militant group Ansar al-Furqan has been executed in Iran’s south-eastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, according to the provincial judiciary.
The head of the judiciary in Sistan and Baluchestan said the death sentence against Abdoljalil Shahbakhsh was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday (May 12), Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Officials said Shahbakhsh was arrested during counterterrorism operations in eastern Iran. Prosecutors subsequently charged him with “baghi” — armed rebellion against the state — through alleged armed attacks on police facilities, as well as membership of the Ansar al-Furqan group.
According to the judiciary, investigators reviewed evidence gathered during both the prosecution and court proceedings, including material extracted from the defendant’s communication devices, audio files and what authorities described as explicit confessions made during interrogation and questioning.
Iranian officials said the sentence was upheld by the country’s Supreme Court before being carried out.
