Iran launched two intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) toward Diego Garcia, a joint U.S.–U.K. military base in the Indian Ocean, according to multiple U.S. officials.
Neither missile struck the base, but the attack marked Iran’s first operational use of IRBMs aimed at a target far beyond the Middle East, Caliber.Az reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
One missile reportedly failed during flight, while a U.S. Navy warship fired an SM-3 interceptor at the other. Officials have not confirmed whether the interception succeeded.
