Iran, France discuss situation in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi held talks with the French ambassador Pierre Cochard, during which the sides discussed the regional situation, including developments in the area of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian diplomat stressed during the meeting the need to avoid any steps that could lead to further escalation in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Telegram channel Al Akhbar News.

France last week sent its carrier strike group to the Red Sea as part of preparations for a possible mission to secure the Strait.

However, French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris could only take part in a security mission in the Strait of Hormuz coordinated with Iran.
