Iran gets new batch of Russian MiG-29 fighter jets, MP says
Iran has received a new shipment of MiG-29 fighter jets from Russia, said Abolfazl Zohrevand, a member of the Iranian Parliament and the National Security Committee.
Zohrevand said the delivery of these Soviet-era aircraft is a short-term measure to strengthen Iran’s air defence capabilities while the country awaits more modern systems, Caliber.Az reports per a media outlet, Inter Bellum News.
He added that Tehran is still in the process of acquiring Su-35 fighters from Russia, although these deliveries have been repeatedly delayed.
The lawmaker also noted that Iran aims to procure advanced air defence systems, including Russia’s S-400, and is considering China’s HQ-9 system as part of a long-term strategy to enhance its layered defence capabilities.
