Iran insists on key role in managing Strait of Hormuz
Iran will play a key role in managing the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the safety of shipping, including mine clearance, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated.
He said Iran and Oman had agreed to establish a temporary safe shipping route until a new traffic scheme is finalised, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Baghaei accused the United States of violating its commitments and attempting to send commercial and military vessels through the strait with their transponders switched off, calling this one of the reasons for the escalation.
The spokesman said the main objective of the ongoing diplomatic talks was to reach a lasting agreement with Oman on ensuring the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
