05 December 2022 09:22

As per reports, the government in Iran is preparing to revise the hijab laws and this will make a change in the decades-old law on women’s dressing. Mohammad Jafar Montessaria, the Attorney General of Iran, explained that the parliament and legal system would review the Hijab laws.

Ibrahim Raisi, the president of Iran said on a television programme that there will be a relaxation in the laws to implement the constitution, Janam TV reports.

In September, a 22-year-old woman named Mahsa Amini was arrested by the Iranian morality police for not wearing the Hijab. She was taken into custody on September 13 and died in police custody three days later. After her death, mass protests engulfed dozens of cities in Iran.

Most of the women have come forward to protest Amini’s death. They protested by burning their headscarves’ and also by cutting their hair. Female students also participated in the protest.

As per the official figures, around 200 people were killed in the protest. However, aid agencies claim it to be at least 320. Both Britain and the US had announced their protest against the suppression of democratic actions.
