Iran judiciary chief calls for prompt indictments of protesters
16 February 2026 13:49
Iran’s Judiciary Chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, has urged authorities to expedite the issuance of indictments against what he described as the “main protesters” involved in the country’s recent unrest, emphasizing that the public expects trials and punishment.
“We must not delay in issuing indictments related to the main elements of the disturbances,” Ejei said, Iran International reports.
He added that in some cases, investigations may take longer due to the “multi-layered” nature of the alleged actions.
Rights groups report that tens of thousands of protesters have been arrested during the ongoing uprising, with detentions continuing across Iran.
