Iran lifts restrictions on Iraqi shipping through Strait of Hormuz

Iran has lifted restrictions on Iraqi shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

The agency said the decision followed a request from Baghdad concerning special permits for Iraqi tankers. The issue was reportedly raised during Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s visit to Iraq.

The United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. In June, the parties reached an interim agreement aimed at creating conditions for ending the conflict and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, but subsequent negotiations broke down.
