Iran-linked money changers detained as UAE tightens security measures
Dozens of money changers with alleged ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates, sources familiar with the matter told Iran International.
The detainees were reportedly involved with financial entities connected to the Islamic Republic, including companies linked to the Revolutionary Guards, assisting in transferring funds on their behalf. Offices of the implicated companies have been shut down, the sources added.
“Some other money changers were summoned by authorities and instructed to leave the country,” one source said.
The move comes amid escalating tensions following recent attacks by Iran, and follows earlier measures targeting Iranian nationals in the UAE. In recent days, some Iranian residents who had left the country found their residency visas revoked, preventing re-entry.
Several individuals affected described the cancellations as abrupt and carried out without prior notice. One Iranian resident said that after traveling to India with his family following the outbreak of conflict, he discovered his residency had been revoked, while his non-Iranian family members were still allowed to return to the UAE.
Earlier reports also highlighted the cancellation of tourist visas for Iranian nationals attempting to enter the country.
