Iran loses eight senior generals in Israeli attacks before ceasefire

26 June 2025 11:48

The Iranian news agency Tasnim has reported that eight Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) generals were killed in recent Israeli airstrikes targeting IRGC facilities in Tehran.

Among those killed were senior commanders, including General Hassan Hansari, General Sohail Rostamian, General Sirus Moradi, General Saeed Aslani, General Mohsen Barkhan, General Majid Zarei, General Mohammad Javad Borhani, and General Ali Abbasi.

Additionally, on June 25, the IRGC officially confirmed the death of General Ali Shadmani, who led the Iranian Armed Forces' Central Command known as "Khatam al-Anbiya." According to the IRGC press service’s announcement on Telegram, General Shadmani succumbed to injuries sustained in Israeli strikes the previous week.

Shadmani had previously served as the deputy commander of the Quds Force's joint military command and headed the operations department at the General Staff.

His Central Headquarters was responsible for coordinating combat operations and approving strategic military decisions. Following the launch of Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, Shadmani was appointed chief of staff of the Iranian army, succeeding Gholam-Ali Rashid, who was killed in the same Israeli strike. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, another former chief of staff, was also killed during the attack.

Israel’s operation on June 13 focused on facilities connected to Iran’s nuclear program, military bases, and armed forces infrastructure. The strikes resulted in the deaths of more than ten high-ranking officers and nuclear scientists.

In response to the Israeli offensive, Iran launched Operation True Promise 3 as a countermeasure.

On June 24, a ceasefire was declared, marking a pause in the recent hostilities.
