Iran not opposed to presence of French gendarmes on Armenia-Azerbaijan border

Iran is not opposed to the deployment of an EU observer mission and French gendarmes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

The statement came from Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

"Iran's position is that the problems between the regional countries should be solved with the participation of these countries themselves. This can ensure security and peace based on dialogue. Other states can contribute to ensuring regional security and peace," Zohouri said.

The EU mission will start working in Armenia on February 20. It will consist of eight gendarmes from France.
