Iran official calls for “Islamic NATO” linking Muslim countries

A senior Iranian official has suggested that Muslim-majority countries could emerge as a dominant global force if they were to form a unified military and economic alliance.

Mohammad-Hassan Nami, a special aide to Iran’s interior minister, said that 57 Muslim countries could become “the world’s greatest power” if they established what he described as an “Islamic NATO," Iran International reports. 

He argued that such an alliance would possess significant economic capacity and control over key strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab.

Nami did not provide further details on how the proposed bloc would be structured or implemented.
