Iran official calls Strait of Hormuz “sovereign privilege”
A senior Iranian lawmaker has described the Strait of Hormuz as a key national asset, calling it “Iran’s sovereign privilege” and likening it to an “atomic bomb” in terms of strategic importance.
“The Strait of Hormuz is not an international waterway; it is Iran’s sovereign privilege and our ‘atomic bomb’, and we stand firm and resolute on this lawful position,” Ali Nikzad, Deputy Speaker of Iran’s Majlis said, Tasnim reports.
He added that the shipping regime in the strait, under directives attributed to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, would not return to its previous arrangements.
Nikzad also highlighted Iran’s nuclear programme, stating that achievements such as uranium enrichment up to 60% reflect the country’s “scientific prowess.”
