Iran, Oman jointly manage Hormuz transit, says ambassador

05 June 2026 17:52

Iran and Oman jointly oversee the Strait of Hormuz and make decisions concerning navigation through the strategic waterway, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Jalali emphasized that Tehran supports the continued and secure flow of maritime traffic through the strait while exercising its sovereign rights in cooperation with Oman, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“As for the Strait of Hormuz, we and our Omani partners make decisions regarding this strait,” Jalali said. “We want transit through the strait to be facilitated. Of course, sovereignty over this waterway must be exercised. Naturally, we charge a certain fee for the services provided. But this does not mean that we intend to close the strait.”

The ambassador stressed that Iran’s objective is to ensure safe and uninterrupted passage through one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

“We want passage through the strait to remain safe and uninterrupted,” he added.
