Iran, Oman to discuss joint management of Strait of Hormuz
26 August 2026 09:19
Iran and Oman are expected to hold talks within the next 30–60 days on the joint management of the Strait of Hormuz and the establishment of a new permanent shipping route, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Iranian media, Gharibabadi said the proposed shipping route would be seven miles wide and would provide a permanent framework for maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and is currently under Iran’s full control.
Gharibabadi also rejected recent US claims that the strait had been cleared of mines and was fully open to shipping, describing the statements as inaccurate.
