Iran opposes Gulf Cooperation Council statement Map
The three islands are an integral and eternal part of the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani made the remarks while refuting a recent statement issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council, IRNA reported.
He underscored that Iran has repeatedly declared its territorial integrity and sovereignty over Iranian islands based on accepted principles and rules of international law.
Kanani also commented on the exploitation of shared resources in the Persian Gulf, saying Iran has always emphasised friendly and constructive cooperation in the energy field, including the Arash gas field, based on its bilateral talks with the Kuwaiti government and negotiation protocols.
He said that paying attention to common interests can pave the way for regional cooperation and called on the Gulf countries to utilise resources based on goodwill and historical rights in accordance with the common interests of their peoples.
