Iran orders state media to follow unified narrative in coverage of Khamenei funeral
Iranian security authorities have instructed state media outlets and government press offices to follow a unified editorial line when covering the funeral of former Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Khamenei, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
The newspaper reported that the directives require media coverage to portray the funeral ceremonies as a symbol of the continuity of state authority, the unity of Iran's political system, and the continuation of the country's "resistance" policy.
Media organisations have also been reportedly instructed to avoid publishing content that contradicts the official narrative.
The reported guidance calls for particular emphasis on the participation of foreign delegations, Iran's diplomatic achievements, and displays of the country's military capabilities, while avoiding coverage of any potential succession disputes or signs of internal political divisions.
