Iran promises mirror response to EU diplomatic restrictions, avoids confrontation
Iran has affirmed that it will respond proportionally to any measures the European Union imposes on its diplomats, while emphasizing that it does not seek confrontation with the bloc.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran will take mirrored actions if the EU enforces restrictions on representatives of the Islamic Republic, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Iran does not intend to be hostile toward the EU, but it will respond in kind to any restrictions,” Araghchi said, underlining a stance of measured retaliation rather than escalation.
The comments follow a decision by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, who announced that Iranian diplomats and other officials would be barred from entering EP buildings in Brussels.
This measure comes against the backdrop of ongoing protests and unrest in Iran, which have drawn international scrutiny and prompted several European institutions to adopt precautionary restrictions.
