Iran ready to defend skies “under any circumstances,” air force chief says
Iran is fully prepared to defend its airspace under any circumstances, according to Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF).
Speaking on June 1 during a meeting with commanders at Shahid Habibi Air Base in Mashhad, Vahedi emphasised the force’s high level of readiness and commitment to national defence amid rising tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
“The IRIAF is ready to provide a decisive defence of the country's airspace under any circumstances,” he stated.
Highlighting the “volatile situation in the region,” Vahedi described constant vigilance and rapid response as essential principles for the Iranian Air Force. He added that his unit must maintain its continuous preparedness and improve its capabilities.
The commander also underlined the strategic focus on indigenous capabilities, stating, “We are duty-bound to maintain the deterrent power of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force at the highest level by relying on domestic expertise and knowledge."
According to Vahedi, regular military exercises and specialised training are crucial for maintaining the operational readiness of pilots and technical personnel.
Iran has increasingly emphasised self-reliance in military development, aiming to boost the domestic defence industry and reduce dependence on foreign systems.
