Iran rejects export of enriched uranium, spokesperson says
Iran has stated that its stockpile of enriched uranium will not be removed from its territory. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks during an appearance on state television network IRIB.
“From the very beginning, we have said that enriched materials will not be taken out of the country. One option is dilution (reducing the concentration and quality of the material) on Iranian territory. This is not a new option,” he said.
Baghaei’s comments came shortly after the announcement of the signing of a memorandum aimed at ending the conflict between Iran and the United States.
The agreement is expected to be followed by additional negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and discussions over the potential lifting of US sanctions against Tehran.
