Iran rejects timeline for reported agreement with Washington

12 June 2026 17:36

An Iranian source has rejected reports suggesting that Tehran is preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United States on ending the war during talks in Geneva this weekend, describing the claims as “completely false.”

Iran’s Fars news agency dismissed statements attributed to US President Donald Trump and reports by several foreign media outlets claiming that an agreement had already been finalized and was scheduled to be signed on June 14 in Geneva.

“The claims by US President Donald Trump and a number of foreign media outlets that ‘the agreement has been finalized and is due to be signed on Sunday, June 14 in Geneva’ are in no way consistent with reality,” the source said.

The informed source stressed that Iran’s internal review and decision-making process regarding any potential agreement remains ongoing and has not yet reached a conclusion.

“In principle, the process of examination and decision-making in Iran has not yet concluded. Therefore, both the stated date (Sunday) and the location (Geneva) are completely rejected,” the source added.

The remarks come amid continued speculation over the status of negotiations between Tehran and Washington and growing international attention on the prospects for a potential agreement aimed at ending the conflict.
