Iran rejects Trump’s claim of death sentences for eight women
Iran’s judiciary has denied a statement by US President Donald Trump claiming that eight women had been sentenced to death in the country.
According to Iranian media, the American leader cited inaccurate information when he alleged that such sentences had been issued. An internal review, they said, found no evidence that death penalties had been handed down to eight women.
On April 21, Trump publicly urged Iranian authorities to release eight women he believed were facing execution, framing the move as a potential “goodwill gesture” ahead of anticipated negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
He made the appeal via social media, saying he would “greatly appreciate” their release and suggesting that sparing them would be “a great start” to talks, indicating the issue was tied to ongoing diplomatic signalling rather than confirmed legal outcomes.
