Iran rules out second route through Strait of Hormuz

07 August 2026 13:23

Iran will not permit the opening of a second route through the Strait of Hormuz, Mohsen Rezaei, military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, said, as uncertainty continues over arrangements for reopening the strategic waterway.

Rezaei also warned that the US military would face serious risks if Washington continues its maritime blockade of the strait.

The remarks come after US President Donald Trump said he had called off planned attacks on Iran in an effort to reach a deal with Tehran.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry previously said Tehran and Oman had agreed on the geographical details of a designated route for vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Under the reported agreement with the United States, the strait is expected to reopen within 60 days. The arrangement would provide time for Washington and Tehran to resume negotiations over the future of Iran’s uranium stockpiles.
