Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and Russia’s special representative for the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Igor Khovaev, recently convened in Tehran to discuss the latest developments in the Caucasus region.

During the June 16 meeting, Bagheri Kani highlighted the shared positions of Iran and Russia on various regional and international matters, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced cooperation between the two nations in the Caucasus. He noted that this region holds significant importance for both Iran’s and Russia’s national interests and security, Caliber.Az reports citing the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Bagheri Kani outlined Iran’s approach to the situation in the Caucasus, advocating for a peaceful resolution to regional conflicts and cautioning against increased interference from external powers. He proposed more frequent consultations between Tehran and Moscow on the Caucasus and stressed the importance of utilizing regional frameworks like the 3+3 format to their fullest potential.
