Iran, Russia to sign accord on Rasht-Astara railway section
Iran and Russia will sign an agreement on the construction of the Rasht-Astana railway section during the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to Tehran on May 16, 17, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said.
According to the ambassador, during his visit to Iran, Novak is accompanied by Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev, the deputy chairman of the central bank and the head of the customs service, IRNA writes.
Jalali also noted that the completion of the construction of the international transport corridor North-South is one of the priorities of the two countries.
“The western branch of the North-South Corridor, which includes Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran, from the point of view of the railway, has a missing link with a length of 162 kilometres between Rasht and Astara. With the completion of the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, a connection will be established between St. Petersburg and the Persian Gulf,” the ambassador recalled.
