Iran’s envoy: Armenia’s development central to Tehran’s strategy

Iran’s newly appointed ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, has stated that Tehran’s strategic policy places Armenia’s development at its core.

According to the Armenian government’s press service, Shirgholami made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan, Calber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

During the meeting, the ambassador conveyed greetings from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Pashinyan and highlighted the centuries-old ties between the Iranian and Armenian peoples, describing them as relations built on trust. He welcomed the Armenian prime minister’s efforts to promote peace, noting that such initiatives contribute to regional development.

The statement said Shirgholami emphasised that a developed Armenia lies at the heart of Iran’s strategic policy and that he would be guided by this principle in his diplomatic mission.

For his part, Pashinyan noted that Armenia–Iran relations are currently experiencing unprecedented momentum, driven by the natural interests linking the two countries. He expressed hope that during Shirgholami’s tenure, the two sides would further deepen and expand cooperation across all areas.
