Iran’s Foreign Ministry: Khamenei alive and safe

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian are alive and safe, an official from the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Speaking to Sky News, spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that the supreme leader and the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, were both alive and well.

"They are all safe and sound," Esmail Baghaei said.

And Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told NBC News that Khamenei and Masoud Pezeshkian, the president, were alive "as far as I know".

Also, Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Mehr later reported that Khamenei is "steadfast and firm in commanding the field".

There had been reports earlier that he was going to give a speech.

But the Iranian culture ministry said those reports were not correct.

Satellite imagery has shown black smoke and extensive damage at Khamenei's compound.

At least four buildings were struck at the compound in central Tehran.

Reuters reported a member of Tehran's city council as saying Khamenei’s son-in-law and daughter-in-law were killed in strikes, citing Young Journalists Club.
