Iran’s interior minister arrives in Pakistan as Gulf tensions rise

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has arrived in Islamabad for an official visit amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf, Al Jazeera reports.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Pakistan, Momeni said the main purpose of the visit was to further strengthen relations between the neighbouring countries and expand cooperation in key areas.

He noted that both sides had previously agreed to increase bilateral trade more than threefold, setting an initial target of $10 billion annually.

Pakistan’s interior minister, in turn, stressed that Islamabad hoped to broaden bilateral cooperation and support efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.

Earlier reports said that during his visit to Islamabad, Momeni would deliver a message from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to the Pakistani leadership.
