Iran's IRGC says it fired on two tankers in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it opened fire on two tankers that it claimed attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran's authorisation.

The IRGC said the incident occurred early in the morning after the vessels allegedly ignored repeated warnings, Fars reports.

According to the statement, the two tankers attempted to transit the strategic waterway via what the IRGC described as an "unauthorised route" while under the protection of U.S. military air cover.

The IRGC said its forces attacked and stopped the vessels after they failed to comply with warnings.

The statement added that four other tankers changed course following the incident.
