10 July 2023 12:20

Iran’s new ambassadors to Bulgaria, Armenia, and Kuwait have met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian to discuss their work plans as they officially start their respective missions.

During separate meetings on July 9, the ambassadors were tasked with advancing bilateral relations and forging closer cooperation across various sectors before embarking on their missions, IRNA reports.

Alireza Irvash, Iran's newly appointed ambassador to Bulgaria, presented Amirabdollahian with his priority programs aimed at further developing relations between Tehran and Sofia.

Amirabdollahian also emphasized the importance of expanding relations between Iran and Eastern European countries, particularly considering Bulgaria’s strategic position as a gateway to the European Union.

Similarly, Mehdi Sobhani, the new ambassador to Armenia, held discussions with the foreign minister before commencing his mission. Amirabdollahian reiterated the Iranian government's policy of prioritizing relations with neighbouring countries.

Mohammad Toutounchi, Iran's new envoy to Kuwait, also met with Amirabdollahian on July 9.

The ambassador presented an update on the current state of bilateral relations between Iran and Kuwait, while the foreign minister offered guidance on strengthening ties in all dimensions.

To recap, Sobhani has previously served as Iran's consul general in Pakistan, deputy head of West Asia Affairs at the foreign ministry and deputy ambassador in Turkmenistan and Ukraine.

Earlier, he took the post of Director General of the Office of Strategic Planning and Monitoring of the foreign ministry.

Sobhani is described by the Iranian foreign ministry as an experienced diplomat. According to the ministry, with the increasing strength of Tehran-Yerevan relations, Sobhani would "promote more and protect and secure the interests of our dear country and all neighbours in this very sensitive area."
