Iran’s parliament speaker says Trump fuelling internal conflict to weaken Tehran
US President Donald Trump is attempting to destabilise Iran by fuelling internal divisions within the country, according to Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Ghalibaf made the remarks in comments addressing Iran’s political and security situation, Caliber.Az citing foreign media.
“Trump is openly dividing the country into radicals and moderates, and then immediately talks about a maritime blockade in order to use economic pressure (…) to force Iran into capitulation,” he said.
Ghalibaf’s statement comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding Iran’s internal political dynamics and its relations with the United States.
He has previously been involved in talks with Washington, although on 23 April it was reported that he had left the negotiating team. Earlier, he had supported maintaining dialogue with the United States.
