Iran's Parliament vows to continue Khamenei's course
Iran is prepared for any scenario and will continue to follow the line of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Speaker of the Islamic Republic’s Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
“We have prepared for all scenarios and developed all necessary plans <…>,” Iranian TV channel Al Alam quotes him as saying.
“The martyred Imam Khamenei was a devout and unwavering believer; we will continue to resolutely follow his path,” Ghalibaf emphasised.
“Our armed forces attacked all centres of the Israeli enemy and U.S. bases. And our attacks will continue,” the Iranian TV channel reported him saying.
Ghalibaf stressed that the U.S. and Israel “have crossed the red line” and “will pay for it.”
The Parliament Speaker also reported that a leadership council has been formed in the country, which will carry out the duties of the Supreme Leader until a successor to Khamenei is elected.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989, was killed on February 28, 2026, during a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike operation targeting his office/compound in Tehran. His death was first announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Truth Social, describing it as "justice" and part of efforts toward regime change and regional peace. Iranian state media confirmed the killing early on March 1, 2026, framing it as martyrdom while declaring 40 days of national mourning and seven public holidays.
