Iran's Pezeshkian calls for Islamic security bloc to stabilise Middle East

21 March 2026 08:51

President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has proposed the creation of a new regional security framework led by Middle Eastern Islamic countries, arguing that such cooperation could ensure lasting stability without foreign involvement.

In his Nowruz message, Pezeshkian outlined a vision for closer regional coordination across security, economic and political spheres, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.

"Our proposal is to form a security structure from the group of Islamic countries in the Middle East to guarantee peace, security, and stability in the region, in order to establish peace and tranquillity," Pezeshkian said.

The Iranian president emphasised reducing reliance on external powers, adding: "We do not need the presence of foreigners in the region; we can form an 'Islamic Council of the Middle East' with the cooperation of Islamic countries, and within this framework, we can regulate our security, economic, cultural, and political relations."

His remarks come amid ongoing tensions across the Middle East, where rivalries and conflicts have drawn in international actors and heightened concerns over regional security.

Pezeshkian also called for unity among regional states, warning against internal divisions. "We have no right to fight each other. We have no right, for any excuse, to fall into a trap that enemies have designed for us. We announce to the world that we are not seeking chaos in the region. We do not want any country to be forced to stockpile weapons and ammunition just to preserve itself and then wait to see if its land will be attacked or not."

While stressing Iran’s stated non-interference policy, he urged neighbouring countries to reconsider their perceptions of Tehran’s role. Pezeshkian stated: "We have no intention whatsoever of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. We absolutely do not wish for the region's security and peace to be disrupted. We can resolve this ourselves, with each other's help, hand in hand. This is a message to the countries of the region: rather than propagating in the media and conveying the belief to your own people that Iran is the cause of unrest in the region, it is better to believe, know, and understand that it is Israel that is the cause of chaos, unrest, genocide, terror, and sabotage in the region."

Concluding his address, Pezeshkian struck a conciliatory tone toward neighbouring countries and highlighted domestic aspirations. He said: "Dear people of Iran, know that with empathy and cooperation, we will build our Iran and bring honor and pride to our people. We will move the region towards peace, development, and economic prosperity through the door of peace and friendship with our neighboring countries. Together with our neighbors, we can establish security and well-being in the region."
