Iran's president proposes moving capital to south
08 September 2024 11:39
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has said it is necessary to move the capital of the Islamic Republic from Tehran to the Persian Gulf coast.
“We have no other option but to move the economic and political centre to the southern coast of the country,” he said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Pezeshkian said Tehran is “facing problems” that cannot be solved in any other way.
“The need to transport raw materials from the south and the coast to the center, create the finished product and send it back to the south for export significantly reduces our competitiveness,” the Iranian president added.
He emphasized that the authorities should take the first step so that people follow them.
