Iran's security chief among targets in reported Israeli strike
Israeli media reported that an assassination attempt targeted two senior Iranian figures overnight between Monday and Tuesday, March 17.
The reported targets were Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s National Security Council, and Gholam Reza Soleimani, commander of the Basij paramilitary force.
Larijani is considered one of the most influential figures in the country’s political leadership.
According to the reports, the strike was carried out after Israel identified and moved to exploit what it described as an operational opportunity. The Israel Defence Forces said it is still assessing the outcome of the attack and has not confirmed the results.
Commenting on the operation, the Chief of Staff indicated that “significant counter-terrorism achievements were recorded tonight,” adding that these developments could have an impact on the broader progress of the campaign.
