Iran's sport minister rules out World Cup participation in "corrupt" United States

Iran's sports minister has ruled out his country's participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States in light of the ongoing war.

Minister Ahmad Donyamali has commented on the upcoming sporting event, which is being co-hosted by the US with Canada and Mexico, Caliber.Az reports citing Al Jazeera.

“Considering that this corrupt ⁠regime has ⁠assassinated our leader, under no circumstances ⁠can we ⁠participate in ⁠the World Cup,” Donyamali says.

His remark came in response to an earlier statement provided by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who wrote in a social media post that he was told by the US president that Iran remained "welcome" at the event.
