Iran’s state-of-the-art destroyer to float in Caspian Sea PHOTO/VIDEO

27 November 2023 19:35

Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Lt-Gen Mohammad Hossein said that the addition of the Deylaman destroyer to Iran's northern navy will increase sustainable security in the Caspian Sea.

According to IRNA, he said this at a ceremony held on November 27 in connection with the transfer of the new destroyer Deylaman to the Iranian Navy in the Caspian Sea.

He called the Caspian Sea a “sea of peace and friendship,” adding that the Islamic Republic maintains friendly military relations with all littoral states of the Caspian Sea.

According to him, the Deylaman and other ships in the Caspian Sea that are currently in operation serve peace and act to maintain stability, ensure the safety of merchant ships, and fight terrorism.

Iran's top military commander added that the destroyer was designed and built in a difficult situation when the country is under unilateral sanctions.

Deylaman, the newest destroyer of the navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran with superior technical and combat capabilities, is a Moj (Wave) class destroyer project. Volna-class destroyers are ships 94 meters long, 11 meters wide, and with a total displacement of 1,300 to 1,500 tons.

The first difference between the Deylaman destroyer and other Volna-class ships is the new mast design. She has a tetrahedral unibody design, unlike other destroyers in her class.

The Deylaman radar is a type of phased array antenna and is the most modern and advanced radar installed on Iranian destroyers, capable of detecting and intercepting surface and air targets, aircraft, drones, helicopters, and surface ships.

Another difference between the Deylaman and other destroyers of a similar class is in the propulsion system. The destroyer has four engines with four separate rows of shafts and propellers, which is due to its greater mobility and maneuverability in the conditions of the Caspian Sea. The ship can reach a maximum speed of 26 knots.

The Deylaman destroyer is armed with a larger number of Qadir anti-ship cruise missiles than other ships of this project.

The Deylaman destroyers have domestically produced naval guns as other surface weapons.

Things are a little different with the air defense capabilities of the Deylaman destroyer; it is planned to be equipped with a vertical launch air defense system in the near future.

Also, an improved missile defense system is being considered for the Deylaman air defense, and it is going to be installed on the destroyer in the near future. This system is capable of hitting air targets at a suitable range and altitude and can provide good air defense cover for the destroyer and the ships under its protection.
