Iran’s UN envoy accuses Gulf states and Jordan of aiding US offensive

23 May 2026 11:32

Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s envoy to the United Nations, accused several Persian Gulf countries and Jordan on Friday, May 22, of actively assisting a US military offensive against Iran.

In a formal letter, Iravani alleged that these states provided support, including military bases, logistical assistance, intelligence, and coordination of air-defence systems. He argued that such involvement renders them liable for damages under international law.

The Iranian envoy also criticised the United Nations Security Council for failing to hold these countries accountable for what he described as unlawful actions against Iran.

"Despite the Security Council’s failure to hold the states along the southern shores of the Persian Gulf and Jordan accountable for their internationally unlawful acts against Iran, these governments, as responsible states, are obliged to fully compensate the Islamic Republic of Iran, including all material and moral damages resulting from their internationally unlawful actions," Iravani said in the letter.
