17 March 2026 12:52
More than 50 cultural heritage sites across Iran have been damaged during ongoing strikes attributed to the United States and Israel, according to official figures.
Citing Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Al Jazeera, referencing IRNA, reported that at least 56 sites — including museums, historic landmarks and cultural facilities — have been affected.
Of those, at least 19 are located in the capital, Tehran. Among the damaged sites are Golestan Palace, the Tehran Grand Bazaar, and the former Senate building.
Earlier reports also indicated damage in the central city of Isfahan, including parts of the Shah Mosque, located on Naqsh-e Jahan Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
