Iran says Bushehr nuclear power plant operating safely after attack
Iran’s nuclear facility, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, is functioning normally and poses no health risks to the public, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said.
Speaking to Russian media, Mohajerani stated that all safety protocols are being fully observed and that specialists from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities have also implemented additional measures to safeguard residents in the surrounding region, she added.
Her comments follow reports that the facility came under fire on April 4 amid ongoing hostilities involving the United States and Israel. According to the AEOI, one employee was killed in the incident. The agency said the plant has been targeted four times since the start of military operations against Iran on February 28.
Despite the attacks, officials insist the plant remains stable.
The Bushehr facility, located on Iran’s southern coast, is the country’s sole active nuclear power station. Its first power unit was commissioned in 2011 with the involvement of Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom.
