Iran says it foiled "separatist terrorist" attack on western border
Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence said that it had thwarted a planned attack by what it described as “separatist terrorist groups” seeking to infiltrate the country through its western borders.
In a statement, the ministry said the groups had intended to enter Iran and carry out attacks in urban centers and border areas, attempting to exploit what it called wartime conditions, Iran International reports.
According to the statement, a joint preemptive operation conducted by the intelligence ministry together with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted the militants’ positions before the alleged plan could be carried out.
The operation destroyed a significant portion of the groups’ positions and capabilities and inflicted heavy losses on them, the ministry said.
