Iran says strikes targeted only US military bases, not Gulf states

Iran has denied carrying out attacks against Gulf states, saying its recent military operations were directed exclusively at U.S. military bases in the region.

Speaking at a briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai said Tehran had not targeted neighbouring countries and reiterated that Iran had repeatedly warned regional governments against allowing the United States to use their territory for military operations against the Islamic Republic, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.

Baghai said Iran had “repeatedly asked countries in the region not to allow the US to use their territory to invade Iran.”

He also said Iran would not allow the Strait of Hormuz to become a source of threats to its national security.

According to Baghai, “the US announcement regarding the military escort of merchant ships confirms Washington’s persistent desire to maintain instability in the region.”
